How to get your records
These pages list official places to ask for your own records. As of October 14, 2026. We do not request them for you, and we do not file a claim.

Three kinds of records
People often mix these up. They are different files, and you ask different offices.
VA medical records are notes from a VA hospital or clinic. Service records are your personnel file, such as a DD214, awards, and assignments. Service treatment records are the medical notes from your time in service. Your C-file is the claims file VA keeps on your benefits.
- VA medical records: download them on VA.gov, or ask the VA clinic with VA Form 10-5345a.
- Service and personnel records: milConnect, the National Archives, or your branch. DPRIS and iPERMS are not open to every veteran.
- Service treatment records and your C-file: VA Form 20-10206, and the National Archives for many service medical records.

What you do, and what we do not do
You sign in on the official site, or you mail the form. When a copy is already in your hands, you can store it in My Records.
Storing a file here does not send it to VA. It does not file a claim.
Private doctors, telehealth apps, and pharmacy history are on a separate page. This set of pages stays on VA care, military service records, service treatment records, and the C-file.

Keep a copy you already have
When the file is in your hands, you can store it in My Records. Storing it does not send it to VA and does not file a claim.
Questions
Will this site get the records for me?
No. You request them on VA.gov, milConnect, or the National Archives. We do not sign in for you. We do not file a claim.
Where do I keep a file after I download it?
You can add a copy you already have to My Records. That stores your copy. It does not send the file to VA.
What this page is not
- Education only. Not legal advice. Not medical advice. Not a VA decision.
- We do not request records. We do not sign in to VA.gov, milConnect, or the National Archives for you. We do not file.
- We are not an accredited representative, and this page does not appoint one.
- A link is not a promise that a record exists, that an office still uses the same menu, or that VA will grant a claim.
- As of October 14, 2026. If a page does not match what you see, check with your branch or VSO.
