Common questions

Where do VA disability ratings come from?

From the VA rating schedule, 38 CFR Part 4. Each condition has a diagnostic code with published percentages and the words that go with each one. Each page here quotes those words and links the official eCFR text.

Does looking up a condition tell me my rating?

No. The lookup matches the words you type to names in the rule book. It is not a diagnosis, not a rating, and not a prediction. VA decides from the evidence.

Why are some codes not listed?

Some codes have no rating lines of their own. The rule book tells VA to rate them under another code or body system, or by a test table. We only publish a page when the code prints its own levels.
