TBI rules, in plain language

A traumatic brain injury rule uses a table. VA calls the boxes in that table facets. This page says what that means. It does not say you have a brain injury, and it does not invent a form. The full quoted table is on the TBI pack.

What a facet is

A facet is one box in the table, such as memory, judgment, social interaction, or symptoms you feel. The rule looks across those boxes. This page does not score any box for you, and it does not say which box applies.

Words like mild, moderate, and severe in an old medical note describe the injury near the time it happened. They are not the same thing as a rating level today. The rule book says that. This page does not assign a level.

No form that is only for TBI

VA’s additional-forms page does not list a form that is only for a brain injury. Do not invent one. The form you fill out and send is VA Form 21-526EZ, the disability application. You send it. We do not.

We do not fill that form in with your records. We do not send it. We do not build a packet and call it filed. You prepare your own claim.

A problem with its own name

The rule book says a problem with its own name, such as migraine headache, can use its own rule instead of the brain-injury table. Mood and behavior go to the mental-health rules when a mental-health condition is diagnosed.

That is a description of the rule book. It is not a diagnosis. It is not advice to file another claim. The migraine reading and the PTSD reading are separate pages if you want those words in plain language.

Records you already have

Line up medical records you already have. We do not go get them from VA.gov or a military site. Notes in your own words can cover memory, headaches, balance, or mood changes you actually live with. Skip anything you cannot stand behind.

The TBI pack quotes the facet table. Use that page for the exact words. You prepare your own claim. We organize and educate. We do not file.

Empty / early reading

Reading this page does not create a packet. Empty means you have not stored files here. An empty set of copies is not a filing, not a rating, and not claim readiness.
