PTSD uses the same mental-health rules as other mental-health conditions. The formula is long. This page says what it is about, then points you to the full pack and the forms. It is not your rating. We do not say you have PTSD. We do not file.
Official sources last reviewed 2026-10-04. We organize and educate. We do not file.

What the long sentence is about
The rule looks at work and at getting along with people. In plain words, higher published levels mean those parts of life are more disrupted. Lower published levels mean the trouble is milder, or it shows up mainly when stress is high.
The words after “such symptoms as” are examples. They do not all have to be true. This page does not say which examples fit you, and it does not tell you which symptoms to write down.
What to line up
Line up medical records you already have, and a statement in your own words about how often symptoms show up and what they change about work and daily life. Write only facts you can stand behind. We do not write that statement.
If a brain injury and a mental-health condition are both named, the rule book points mood and behavior to the mental-health rules when a mental disorder is diagnosed. That is how the rule book talks. It is not a recommendation of what to claim.
Forms you open yourself
VA Form 21-0781 is the statement form VA publishes for a mental-health condition tied to something in service. VA’s page says the form is optional if you already answer those questions on the online application. You still fill out and send anything you use. We do not send it.
You also fill out VA Form 21-526EZ, the disability application, and you send it. The full PTSD pack lists those forms with the official pages. Form 21-0781a stopped on June 28, 2024. Use the current form. We do not send it.
Not care, and not a decision
If you are in crisis, call 988 and press 1, or text 838255. This page is not crisis care, and it is not a place to report an emergency. It does not diagnose PTSD.
The full pack quotes the general rating formula. A number printed there is a level in the rule book, not your pay. You prepare your own claim. We do not file. We are not an accredited representative.
Empty / early reading
Reading this page does not create a packet. Empty means you have not stored files here. An empty set of copies is not a filing, not a rating, and not claim readiness.
Education only. Not a claims agent. Not individualized claim advice. Not legal advice. Not medical advice.
Not a VA decision. Not your rating. Not a promise of service connection, a percent, or a payment.
You prepare your own claim. We organize and help you understand. We do not file, submit, or prosecute a claim.
We are not an accredited representative, and this page does not appoint one.
We do not send you to a doctor or a lawyer, and we do not take a referral fee.
We never take a percentage of VA benefits.
$9.99/mo or $107.99/yr. Never a cut of your VA pay.
This product helps you understand and organize your VA benefits information. We organize and educate. The veteran prepares their own claim. We are not an accredited representative. It is not individualized claim preparation or prosecution. We do not file.
