CRDP: Concurrent Retirement and Disability Pay, in Plain Words
Most military retirees cannot get full military retired pay and full VA disability pay at the same time. CRDP (Concurrent Retirement and Disability Pay) is the exception for many retirees with a VA rating of 50% or more. If you qualify, DFAS pays it automatically.

Not an organization fee. Never a cut of VA pay.

The usual rule: the VA waiver
By law, a military retiree who gets VA disability pay usually gives up the same amount of military retired pay. DFAS calls this the VA waiver. CRDP gives back some or all of that waived retired pay to retirees who qualify.
Who qualifies for CRDP
These are the main rules from 10 U.S.C. 1414, VA's rule at 38 CFR 3.750, and DFAS:
You are a military retiree who is entitled to retired pay.
VA rates your service-connected disability, or your disabilities combined, at 50% or more.
If you were retired for disability (Chapter 61), you also need 20 or more years of creditable service.
CRDP is automatic
DFAS says no application is required. Eligible retirees receive CRDP automatically. In most cases DFAS pays it without a written claim.
DFAS pays CRDP monthly, the same way it pays your retired pay. Questions about your retired pay go to DFAS. Questions about your VA rating go to VA.
How CRDP is different from CRSC
CRSC is Combat-Related Special Compensation. Both programs help retirees get back retired pay they waived for VA disability pay. DFAS lists these differences:
CRDP: for retirees rated 50% or more. It is automatic. DFAS says it is taxed the same way as your retired pay.
CRSC: for combat-related disabilities. You must apply to your branch of service. DFAS says it is non-taxable.
What this page does not do
We do not decide whether you qualify, and we do not say how much you would get. DFAS and your branch of service decide that. For your own pay, contact DFAS.
Common questions
Do I have to apply for CRDP?
No. DFAS says no application is required. Eligible retirees receive CRDP automatically.
What VA rating do I need for CRDP?
VA must rate your service-connected disabilities at 50% or more, combined.
Can this page tell me my CRDP amount?
No. DFAS works out CRDP. This page only explains the rules.
Empty / early reading
Reading this page does not create a packet. Empty / early means you have not stored files here. An empty vault stays empty. It is not a sample C-file, not a filing, and not claim readiness.
Education and organize only. Not a claims agent. Not individualized claim advice. Not legal advice. Not medical advice.
Not a VA decision. Not your rating. Not a promise of service connection, a percent, or a payment.

We are not an accredited representative, and this page does not appoint one.
A packet on this product is an organization view you still control. This product does not submit it.
We do not invent a diagnosis, a nexus opinion, a C-file, or a claim outcome. Unknown stays unknown.
A quote about a file you stored appears only when those exact words are on the page. My Records reads text already in a PDF, and reads scanned pages and photos with OCR, up to 60 picture pages per file. Those quotes are marked “Read by OCR, check it” because OCR can misread. OCR runs on our own server. Nothing is sent to an outside company. Pages past that limit are not read. That is not OCR of those pages.
